Well, this is the final week of personal training and soon I’ll be left to my own devices at the gym. I have to admit it’s both cool to know that I’m no longer a total newb at the gym, but also a little scary because now I have to be accountable to myself. I’ll have to train hard and avoid stuffing my face, not because these hips don’t lie or RubySlippers might disapprove and make my workout of the day extra hard, but because I should know better and act accordingly.
Nonetheless, I’ve learned a lot in these past few weeks and if I run into trouble workout wise I’m sure I can bug RubySlippers on Facebook for pointers. We’ll see how things go. In the mean time I’m just worried about why RubySlippers is behind the trainer’s counter with a pen in hand and a huge smile. It can’t be good! That smile usually means trouble.
Sure enough after the “hey girl, how’s it going?” and sign-in out of the way, she says she has a treat for me today and I have a feeling it’s not a Starbucks cookie…No more 7s or 10’s, today it’s all about number one. I’m both intrigued and scared, this is like those open book exams where the questions are so warped that even the textbook is useless.
On Today’s Menu
- RubySlippers says 1 minute. Set. Go!…oh no wait, take a break while I grab a stopwatch *LOL* (Why am I not surprised?)
- Today’s task is to do as many reps as I can in 1 minute of the bodyweight exercises that RubySlippers has set-out for me, sets for time. *crying on the inside*

Last Thoughts: After comparing today’s results to the fit test from a few months back when I joined the gym, I have to say I’m definitely proud of myself!
Note to self: Keep at it!
My Challenge 2U:
Take three minutes of your time and do a one minute challenge. Try it now, all you need is a clock or watch or the timer on your phone whatever can keep track of one minute. Now try doing as many squats as you can in one minute, then as many sit-ups as you can in one minute, and finish it up with as many push-ups as you can in one minute. That’s three minutes of your time, and yes regardless of what shape you’re in it should be quite a challenge to push yourself. Don’t forget to jot down your results. Keep training hard and then challenge yourself again in a few weeks to see how much you’ve improved.
If you train hard, you’ll keep getting better and better!
Trust me on this one. Ten weeks ago I couldn’t do real push-ups, just girly ones from the knees. Now I can push-up my own weight, and surprisingly enough I can finally do one-legged push-ups, yes! So don’t get discouraged if your numbers are small right now, instead work hard and you’ll reap the rewards.
I always say that you shouldn’t compare yourself to others because we are all different. It’s great to have role models but at the end of the day the important thing is to aspire to be as strong and healthy as you can be regardless of whether or not you ever get to look like them. Also since a little friendly competition never hurt anyone, I’ll share with you my current 1 minute personal bests. Fell free to beat them anytime, and if you already are ahead of me then that’s awesome and there are a few world records out there so keep pushing yourself!
My Personal Best (Timed & counted by RubySlippers):
- Squats 45 in 1 minute
- Sit-ups 42 in 1 minute
- Push-ups 46 (knee ones) in 1 minute
- Push-ups 38 (real ones) in 1 minute
Keep training hard and improving your awesomeness!
