Sink or Swim

Sometimes we look back and pine over missed opportunities. We see them abandoned in our past rusting and rotting away like an abandoned boat without a rudder. If we’re unhappy with where we are in life this can only bring more unhappiness.

So if you find yourself constantly looking back at what could have been, then stop! The past is done and over. No amount of wishing, wallowing or crying can undo it. You’ll just waste energy on something that is forever out of your hands.

Stop looking back. Let it be. Instead look up, look forward, make today count. Don’t worry about tomorrow because it’s not guaranteed. Just focus on today, make it worth remembering. You can’t change the past, but you can change today. You have every opportunity to make your life what you want it to be.

Remember that your mistakes got you this far, so learn from them. If you take away something good from them then they were worth making. If you’ve gotten this far in spite of those mistakes then it speaks volumes about how strong you really are. Channel that inner strength and put it to good use.

Go out there and live your life, be positive, be kind, be present in the now! Stop pining away over an old boat load of things that were not meant to be, and work on things that you actually want to make happen.

Also, there’s a reason you left that boat behind. You might not know it, but if you really think about it, you jumped ship because it was holding you back, it was slowly sinking and deep within yourself you knew that you were strong enough to make a swim for it.
